Another night of big voices and bigger emotions has seen the competition tighten on Monday night, with Australian Idol now down to its Top 6.

As the live shows heat up, viewer votes are proving just as unpredictable as the performances, leaving judges and contestants on edge.

On Monday night’s episode, Charlie Moon and Simela Petridis were eliminated after Australia cast its vote, trimming the Top 8 down to six contenders still in the running for the grand prize.

The episode opened with a high energy group performance before hosts Ricki-Lee and Scott Tweedie revealed the bottom four, with Kalani Artis and Kesha Oayda joining Charlie and Simela in the danger zone.

A standout moment came earlier in the week when Harlan Goode bypassed the public vote entirely, earning a direct path into the Top 6 after his performance of Queen’s Somebody To Love impressed judges Marcia Hines, Kyle Sandilands and Amy Shark.

Amy Shark summed up the bittersweet mood of the night, noting the strength of the remaining contestants before adding:

“It’s sad for us. I love watching these guys perform every week, but it’s exciting that they have shown the country what they are capable of.”

Despite strong final performances from all four at risk, including crowd pleasing renditions of classics by Cyndi Lauper, Nelly Furtado and Stevie Wonder, it was Simela and Charlie whose journeys came to an end.

Charlie reflected on his time in the competition, calling it a lifelong dream since watching Guy Sebastian win in 2003, adding:

“This has meant the world to me. I have been dreaming of this since Guy Sebastian won in 2003.”

The night also featured a return performance from former winner Dylan Wright, as the remaining contestants edge closer to a prize that includes $100,000 and a recording package.

Australian Idol continues 7.30 Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th April on Channel 7 and streaming on 7plus.

    • Troy Seidel Harlan said he wanted to sing a Queen song. Not a challenge/twist. Other contestants showed the country their versatility much more.

      • Rachel Brown Each week he’s gotten better and better, like the judge said he’s taken on some of the toughest songs in the competition, and manages to do better each week,at the age of 18 that’s really impressive since his vocal range will mature, don’t get me wrong,The others are all good singers, for me as a fan of Elvis,Freddie, and John Farnham,he’s given the same shivers

      • Troy Seidel Yes I think a few other idols could have taken on those songs also and sounded just as good if not better. I don’t dispute his talent at all – the top 6 can sing.

      • Rachel Brown Agree, they all deserve to be there, all have the talent and vocals to go much further, even if they don’t win it, just like Adam Lambert for example

      • Troy Seidel yes but keeping it Australian Idol – we have Rikki Lee, Jessica Mauboy, Anthony Callea, etc all who didn’t win that have careers in the media or music industry.

    • Chantel Guirguis How great does she look. I remember that she said in the makeovers she didn’t feel comfortable showing her legs, and here she is in a dress and looking gorgeous. I loved her performance on Sunday night, she sand with confidence.

  1. I was dissapointed that Simela wasn’t safe. That said, it makes next weeks a little easier to vote for my faves. I wonder if the judges will leave the top 6 completely to the public next week rather than have a judges save.

    • Jenny Scully I know Charlie and Simela were my faves to win. I usually pick it from the auditions every year. I picked Marshall from his audition last year and Dylan the year before that. But was very disappointed they both went home last night. I think Harlan is great and Kesha is very good but Charlie was my top vote.🥲

  2. Let’s hope the judges keep their hands away from the voting this week. Will always be a rigged show while there is influence from judging panel, which does not allow correct voting by the public.

  3. How many free to air channels and streaming options are there! Don’t punish yourself if you don’t like ‘garbage’. Saves you keystrokes too!

  4. Bruce really?? Turn it off or change the channel, would’ve thought that would be easier as opposed to negative feedback. 🤔

  5. Simela should have stayed not kesha so boring an sucks up to judges an carrys on to much about herself I’m here 😴

  6. Is it just me or does Harlen look down his nose at other singers and has his back slightly turn away from them. His clapping is a polite clap not meaningful

  7. I really feel that they should not let the audience vote and a show like this should be based on talent and should be solely decided by the judges who knows talent. It is not based on looks or who silly young voters vote for on this show it is “TALENT”.I like idol but this show has lost the plot big time.

  8. It’s not all Australia’s votes because the judges save people.Let’s face it if they didn’t do that there wouldn’t be 2 of them there that are there.I just think it is staged to a certain degree.Let Australia vote from the top 12 that’s if that isn’t staged as well.

  9. A lot of raised eyebrows lets be honest.. but I’m not one of them and I’m just glad they are all out there giving it a go… You don’t know what its like till you put yourself out there

  10. I always ask myself, which one could put on a 90-120 minute show and thoroughly entertain me the whole time? My pick to do this is Harlan, with different genre songs (he could do any!). Outfit changes (and I can only imagine what they would be), hair/make-up and I believe he can also play the guitar. I would spend my money to see one of his shows. The others? Don’t really think so as much.
