As America prepares to celebrate 250 years of independence, Sky News Australia is taking viewers on a coast to coast journey through a nation still grappling with its identity.
In a new one-hour documentary, Trump’s America: 250 Years in the Making, Paul Murray travels across the United States to explore the people, places and debates shaping the country during a pivotal moment in its history.
The special follows Murray from New York and Washington DC to Nashville, Dallas, San Francisco and the McAllen border region, examining the issues and experiences that continue to define modern America.

Along the way, he speaks with a range of voices, including musician Kid Rock, commentator Michael Shellenberger, historians, law enforcement officers and everyday Americans, offering different perspectives on the nation’s past, present and future.
Paul Murray, host at Sky News Australia, said the anniversary provides an opportunity to look beyond the headlines and better understand the people and places that have shaped the country.
“Like America itself this is a wild ride from New York to NASCAR. Kid Rock’s White House to the real one in Washington DC.”
The documentary explores topics including immigration, national identity, faith, politics, innovation and culture, while reflecting on how the United States has evolved since declaring independence nearly 250 years ago.
Part travelogue, part historical reflection and part contemporary snapshot, the special examines a nation marking a significant milestone while navigating a period of political and cultural debate.
