The mystery beneath the surface is far from over, with Apple TV this week offering a first look at the next chapter of its acclaimed sci-fi drama Silo.

The streamer has released the trailer for season three, which sees Rebecca Ferguson return as Juliette Nichols while the story expands beyond the events of the first two seasons to explore the origins of the world that created the silo.

Based on Hugh Howey’s bestselling trilogy, the third season continues the story of a dystopian society of 10,000 people living underground, while also revealing an origin story set centuries earlier.

After surviving her forced “cleaning”, Juliette returns with memory loss as the silo attempts to recover from rebellion and confront a dangerous new threat.

At the same time, a storyline set in the “Before Times” follows journalist Helen Drew and Congressman Daniel Keene as they uncover a conspiracy that sets off a chain of events with catastrophic consequences.

Ferguson is joined by returning cast members Common, Harriet Walter, Chinaza Uche, Avi Nash, Alexandria Riley, Shane McRae, Remmie Milner, Rick Gomez, Billy Postlethwaite and Clare Perkins.

New additions include Ashley Zukerman, Jessica Henwick, Laura Innes, Jessica Brown Findlay, Morven Christie, Reed Birney and Matt Craven, while Colin Hanks and Steve Zahn also feature.

Created by Emmy Award winner Graham Yost, Silo has already been renewed for a fourth and final season, with the first two seasons available to stream now on Apple TV.

Season three of Silo premieres 3 July on Apple TV, with new episodes released weekly through to 4 September.
