One of the world’s most powerful newsroom leaders is heading to the ABC’s biggest journalism stage, with Reuters Editor in Chief Alessandra Galloni set to deliver the 2026 Andrew Olle Media Lecture.

The annual event, named in honour of late ABC broadcaster Andrew Olle, will see Galloni share her perspective on the future of journalism at a time when news organisations around the world continue to navigate rapid change.

As the first woman to lead Reuters in its 175 year history, Galloni oversees one of the world’s largest and most influential news agencies.

Following her keynote address, Galloni will join a panel discussion examining how global media trends are playing out locally.

The conversation will be moderated by Hamish Macdonald and feature ABC Managing Director Hugh Marks, News Corp Australasia Executive Chair Michael Miller, SBS Managing Director Jane Palfreyman and Nine Entertainment CEO and Managing Director Matt Stanton.

Galloni said the lecture would provide an opportunity to reflect on the role of trusted journalism at a time of significant change across the global media industry.

“At a time of profound change for the media, it is important to reflect on the values that underpin trusted, independent journalism.”

The event will also continue its long running partnership with Brain Cancer Australia, with all proceeds from ticket sales supporting research and awareness efforts in memory of Andrew Olle.

The 2026 Andrew Olle Media Lecture will be held at ABC Studios in Sydney and broadcast on ABC News Channel and ABC iview.
