Grace Tame is sharing one of the most personal chapters of her life yet, fronting a new ABC podcast series that explores autism through lived experience, expert insight and frank conversation.

Across four episodes, the human rights campaigner explores the experiences of autistic women and gender diverse people, drawing on personal stories and expert insight.

Autistic AF with Grace Tame forms part of the ABC’s Ladies, We Need To Talk podcast slate and sees Tame speak openly about her own autism diagnosis at 19, along with years of misdiagnoses, including being incorrectly diagnosed with anorexia.

The series combines personal stories with current research, exploring topics including late diagnosis, masking, strengths associated with autism and the health disparities experienced by autistic people.

Tame said the project aims to bring greater understanding to experiences that have often been absent from both research and public discussion.

“I hope it opens hearts and minds, breaks down barriers, answers questions, provokes curiosity, and resonates with autistic and neurotypical listeners alike.”

The series opens with Ladies, We Need To Talk host Yumi Stynes interviewing Tame before she takes over hosting duties for the remaining episodes. Guests include actor and autism advocate Chloe Hayden, The Assembly participant Bethany Woodman and neuroscientist Dr Gina Rippon.

Produced as a collaboration between ABC Audio Studios’ Ladies, We Need To Talk and the Radio National Science Unit, the podcast blends personal storytelling with expert perspectives to examine the experiences of autistic women and gender diverse people.

Autistic AF with Grace Tame is available now on ABC listen and podcast platforms, with the first episode also available as a video podcast on ABC Australia’s YouTube channel.
