What to expect from the ABC Upfronts this week

This week the ABC hosts their annual Showcase event on Thursday, revealing their content slate for the year ahead and Aunty always delivers with plenty of local content spanning news, current affairs, documentaries, comedy and general entertainment.

The ABC’s Upfronts (Showcase event) differ greatly from that of Australia’s commercial rivals and to a slightly lesser extent SBS, which is partially tax payer funded but also collects some revenue through advertising, in that their biggest critic is not advertising agencies or the media, but anyone who still watches FTA or regularly uses a BVOD service in this country.

As not the case with the other networks, there often aren’t a lot of leaked stories about programming decisions at ABC as they are usually very transparent with renewals or cancellations, and with a number of titles already confirmed to return or new for 2024 it will be interesting to see what the ABC dishes up.
