The acclaimed history-mystery series, Stuff The British Stole, will return for a second season, ABC, Screen Australia, and CBC have announced.
The series has begun filming, with Marc Fennell, a Walkley award-winning journalist, reprising his role as host.
The eight-part series is set to lead viewers on a journey through contested histories across the globe. It will shed light on eight new artefacts, each with a unique narrative tied to the British Empire. This season promises a vivid showcase of colonial bounty, with stories of priceless jewels, stunning antiquities, and colonial exploits.
The Australia-Canada co-production is co-produced by Wooden Horse, WildBear Entertainment and Cream Productions for the ABC and CBC. With substantial investment from Screen Australia, the series is also financed with support from the Canada Media Fund, Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit, Ontario Creates, and VicScreen. FremantleMedia has secured the rights to distribute the series worldwide.
Kalita Corrigan, Commissioning Editor at ABC Factual and Culture, expressed excitement at continuing the successful series, highlighting the show’s critical acclaim and popularity with viewers. Similarly, Jennifer Dettman, Executive Director of Unscripted Content at CBC, emphasized the series’ unique storytelling approach, expressing enthusiasm about partnering with ABC for another season.
Alex West, Screen Australia’s Head of Documentary, lauded the series for illuminating the cultural and historical significance of precious artefacts acquired under imperial rule. The executive producers from Wooden Horse, Wild Bear Entertainment and Cream Productions also expressed pride in the series’ success and the anticipation for the new season.
Season three of the popular Stuff The British Stole podcast is also available, with a new episode released every Wednesday. The series can be streamed on the ABC listen app, CBC Listen, and other podcast platforms. The first season of the series can also be streamed on ABC iview or CBC Gem.
