Bron Lewis Claims Inaugural VicScreen Greenlight Award at Melbourne Comedy Festival
Bron Lewis has taken out the inaugural VicScreen Greenlight Award, unveiled in partnership with the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, recognising a Victorian comedian with strong potential to move into screen.
Lewis was awarded for her current show Chaos, selected from a broad field of local performers at this year’s festival.
According to VicScreen, the production stood out for “the originality of its voice, the strength of its storytelling, and its clear potential to translate to screen”.
The newly established award aims to spotlight emerging talent capable of following in the footsteps of comedians-turned-screenwriters including Kitty Flanagan, Nazeem Hussain, Kate McLennan and Kate McCartney.
VicScreen CEO Caroline Pitcher said the initiative builds on the festival’s long-standing role in developing Australian comedy.

Melbourne International Comedy Festival Artistic Director Susan Provan AO described Lewis as a worthy first recipient, pointing to the strength of the broader comedy sector.

Lewis has rapidly emerged as a prominent voice in Australian comedy, first gaining national attention in 2022 as co-winner of the RAW Comedy competition. She followed this with a Melbourne International Comedy Festival Best Newcomer nomination in 2023 for her debut show Probably.
Her subsequent shows — Obviously (2024), Who’s Talking?! (2025), and now Chaos (2026) — have continued to build her profile, with her work often drawing on experiences from motherhood, teaching and her upbringing in Canberra.
Beyond the stage, Lewis has appeared as a regular guest on Network 10’s Have You Been Paying Attention? and performed on Thank God You’re Here, while also working as a writer on The Project. She is also set to appear in the upcoming ABC sketch series URZILA.
