Netflix is expanding its partnership with Sesame Workshop, with a new Sesame Street film in development alongside an extended deal for the long-running children’s series.
The film is being developed with Rideback and Sesame Workshop, expanding the partnership beyond the ongoing series deal, although Netflix has not yet announced a release date or further production details.
Netflix first announced its partnership with Sesame Workshop in May 2025, becoming the global streaming home for new seasons of Sesame Street from Season 56.
The deal came after Warner Bros. Discovery decided not to renew its agreement for new episodes on HBO and Max, ending a streaming partnership that had run since 2016.
The move gave the more than 50-year-old children’s series a new worldwide streaming home, while also bringing 90 hours of previous episodes to Netflix.
Season 56 subsequently launched on the service in November 2025, before Netflix expanded its Sesame Street collection to more than 100 library episodes and specials earlier this year.
The extended agreement will now see Netflix continue to deliver new seasons of Sesame Street through Season 62, providing a longer-term home for the series as the partnership also expands beyond television.
The new film will bring Elmo, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby and other familiar characters into a feature-length project, although Netflix has not yet revealed details about its story, cast or release plans.
The announcement forms part of a broader expansion of Netflix’s preschool and kids offering, which accounted for 15% of the streamer’s total viewing hours during the first half of 2026.
Among the other announcements are new Gabby’s Dollhouse spin-off Doozie’s Doghouse and preschool series Puppy Pirates, while animated comedy Bad Dinosaurs has been renewed for a further two seasons.
