Hondo’s next mission is officially headed to Australia, with Stan securing the local home of the new S.W.A.T. spin off.

As first reported by Deadline, Sony Pictures Television has completed worldwide sales for S.W.A.T. Exiles, with Stan among the international buyers for the action drama as the franchise prepares for its next chapter.

The acquisition continues Stan’s long standing partnership with Sony Pictures Television, which was expanded last year to include exclusive first run scripted dramas and an extensive library of Sony television series.

It also keeps the franchise under one roof in Australia, with all eight seasons of the original S.W.A.T. currently available to stream on Stan, having also aired locally on Seven and 7plus.

The 10 episode series sees Shemar Moore reprise his role as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, who is pulled out of forced retirement to lead an experimental S.W.A.T. unit made up of young, unpredictable recruits after a high profile mission goes disastrously wrong.

Original cast members Jay Harrington and Patrick St. Esprit also return, while David Lim reprises his role as Victor Tan in the penultimate episode.

Keith Le Goy, Chairman of Sony Pictures Television, said the global response demonstrates both the enduring appeal of the franchise and the studio’s strategy of investing in premium intellectual property with worldwide potential.

“The response to S.W.A.T. Exiles has been extraordinary and is a testament to the strength of the franchise, as well as the passion and commitment of Shemar Moore, Jason Ning and Neal H. Moritz, who have been outstanding partners throughout the process.”

Alongside Stan in Australia, Sony has licensed the series to Sky New Zealand, with additional deals spanning Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa.

In the United States, S.W.A.T. Exiles will premiere on Starz, while Sony has indicated the series will launch simultaneously in select international territories, although it has not confirmed which markets are included.

Stan is yet to announce an Australian premiere date for S.W.A.T. Exiles.
