Our trans Tasman neighbours have another television export on their hands, with one mystery series continuing to win over broadcasters around the world.
Starring Australia’s Brett Tucker and Michala Banas, Blue Murder Motel is expanding its international footprint as production gets underway on a second season.
The Kiwi mystery comedy, which premiered on ABC and ABC iview earlier this year, has continued building an international audience with a fresh round of distribution deals.
Leading the latest agreements, Acorn TV has acquired the series for the United States and Canada, while ITV has picked up UK rights, with additional sales across Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa also confirmed, according to Deadline.
The latest deals come as cameras begin rolling on the six part second season, with Tucker and Banas returning as retired detectives Bill and Beatrice, whose seaside motel remains an unlikely hotspot for murder.
Produced by Great Southern Television for TVNZ and ABC, the series continues to build its global reach as demand for New Zealand scripted drama grows.
Season two of Blue Murder Motel is currently in production and will premiere in New Zealand before returning to ABC and ABC iview in Australia.
