Bad news for South Park fans down under, with the entire 26-season back catalogue quietly removed from streaming service Paramount+ in Australia over the weekend.
The surprise move came without any prior warning to subscribers, leaving fans of the long-running animated satire scratching their heads. Many took to the Facebook group Paramount+ Australia Fans, which has more than 6,000 members, to question where the episodes had gone.
All episodes of South Park — which previously held a prominent spot in the platform’s Top 10 carousel — have now disappeared from Paramount+ in Australia and abroad, following reports that Paramount’s licence to stream the lucrative series outside of the U.S. has recently expired.
The removal is another blow to South Park fans locally, coming just months after Paramount wound down the Australian presence of Comedy Central — a channel long associated with reruns of the series. Comedy Central was officially pulled from Fetch TV in late March, ending its broadcast footprint in Australia and the era of endless encores.
While select South Park specials such as Post COVID and The Streaming Wars remain available on Paramount+ Australia under a separate deal, the full series removal appears to reflect ongoing complexities around international streaming rights and licensing agreements — with the series caught in the fallout of the impending Paramount acquisition by Skydance and creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone reportedly frustrated by alleged interference in negotiations over streaming rights.
Interestingly, the 24/7 South Park FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV) channels remain active on 10’s free streaming platform and continue to appear in the schedule for free-to-air channel 10 Comedy. A small handful of episodes are also still available to stream for free — suggesting a separate domestic distribution arrangement outside of subscription streaming is in place.
Meanwhile, the season 27 premiere of South Park — recently delayed in the U.S. until July 23 — is fast approaching, but it remains unclear whether new episodes will stream locally on Paramount+ or another platform.
Paramount has yet to confirm where or when Australian viewers will be able to watch the upcoming season.
