Big changes are coming are happening behind the scenes at Seven’s weekly current affairs program.
One of the architects behind the success of 7 News Spotlight will soon be leaving for a new role with NSW Police Media.
Award-winning producer Steve Jackson is venturing away from journalism after two decades to pursue a new opportunity.
His first role was at local paper The Warwick Daily News. Since then Jackson has worked in both print and TV during his time in both Australia and the UK – where he cut his teeth at some of the biggest tabloids, including The Daily Mirror.
In 2013 Jackson began working at 60 minutes before returning to print. In 2021 he joined Executive Producer Mark Llewellyn as the Chief of Staff on Spotlight.
On a personal note, I’ve been working with ‘Jacko’ on Spotlight since I joined the program last June. His news sense is second to none and his sources are the envy of many.
he will be missed by the entire team.
Below is the email sent to staff by EP Mark Llewellyn:
Dear All,
Jacko has been flicked …
… an opportunity too good to turn down.
He’ll reveal all soon, but I am proud of his achievement, and so will you be when he is able to say.
Jacko is like an iceberg. 90% of what he does you don’t see. But I do, and all I really need to say is that he has been critical to the evolution and success of Spotlight and will be sorely missed, especially by me.
The good news is he is here with us for a little while yet, powering through to our season launch and beyond. And we have blockbuster shows ahead including an absolute ball tearer from Jacko ‘on-the-tools’ himself.
On a personal note, Steve ‘Jacko’ Jackson is one of the smartest people in the game. He’s also my friend. I wish him well.
