Indian Talents Akshay Ajit Singh and Shahana Goswami Join SBS’s ‘Four Years Later’
The new SBS romantic drama, Four Years Later, is set to feature Indian stars Akshay Ajit Singh and Shahana Goswami. Previously titled Four Years, this eight-part series has commenced production in Mumbai and Jaipur, with plans to continue filming in Sydney towards the end of February.
As part of SBS’s announced lineup for 2024, Four Years Later delves into the poignant love tale of Sridevi (played by Goswami) and Yash (Singh). The plot revolves around the couple’s challenge of enduring a four-year separation immediately after their nuptials, as Yash embarks on a medical traineeship in Australia.
The narrative, which interweaves themes of evolving love, intimacy, and the quest for belonging, is uniquely presented through dual perspectives. It incorporates both Hindi and English languages, offering a deep dive into the complexities of maintaining love and reconnection over time and distance.
The series is the brainchild of creator Mithila Gupta, who leads a talented writing team including Nicole Reddy and S. Shakthidharan, all of whom share South Asian heritage. Directors Mohini Herse and Fadia Abboud contribute their expertise to the project.
Production of the series is helmed by Easy Tiger’s Ian Collie and Rob Gibson, in collaboration with Stephen Corvini and Indian production company Suitable Pictures. Four Years Later has garnered significant backing from Screen Australia, with additional financing from SBS and the Made in NSW Fund managed by Screen NSW. ITV Studios is responsible for international sales.
Gupta, also serving as an executive producer, expressed her enthusiasm about the cultural integration in the series.
“It has been a dream come true to bring Australian and Indian crews together on this series and tell such a culturally specific story through the universal lens of love, familial expectations, and most of all: belonging,” she remarked.
Julie Eckersley, SBS’s head of scripted content, praised Four Years Later for its authentic depiction of romance and relationships. She highlighted the drama’s focus on modern intimacy, set against the backdrop of two distinct cultures, and its appeal to a global audience.
“It continues our strategy at SBS Scripted to make fresh Australian content with global audience appeal,”
