AFL’s night of nights delivered glamour and an interstate winner.

Channel 7

It was always going to be Seven’s night. Home & Away (354,000 BNE/SYD/MEL only) drew a reasonable crowd, and the states that didn’t take the medal count on the main channel saw a small audience show up for MKR (190,000 BNE/SYD) and a repeat of MOVIE: The Mummy (78,000 BNE/SYD/PER). Really the night was all about the 2023 AFL Brownlow Medal Red Carpet (584,000 (499,000 Seven MEL/ADL; 85,000 7mate BNE/SYD/PER)) and the event itself, the 2023 AFL Brownlow Medal (904,000 (792,000 Seven MEL/ADL/PER; 112,000 7mate BNE/SYD))
which brought home a massive audience for the network and lifted them to a massive win.

Seven first in both primary (31.6%) and network (41.2%) rankings.

Channel 9

Nine was never in the hunt after A Current Affair (763,000), as The Block (628,000) performed well – however 200k down on Sunday’s reveal ep – and couldn’t compete with the Brownlow. Russell Brand: In Plain Sight (188,000) was token filler at best, before 100% Footy (52,000 BNE/SYD) and Accused of Murdering Our Son: The Steven Clark Story (49,000 MEL/ADL/PER) split the run, coming back with another episode of Chicago Med (41,000).

Nine second in both primary (17.5%) and network (23.6%) rankings.

ABC

7:30 (461,000) and Australian Story (505,000) opened the ABC’s night well, however it couldn’t hold the interest through to Four Corners (390,000) and Media Watch (382,000). Especially Q+A (183,000) suffered – again – now struggling to draw a crowd bigger than 250k. A repeat of The Newsreader (27,000) finished the night off nicely.

ABC third in primary (12%) and fourth in network (14.8%) rankings.

Channel 10

After The Project (190,000 6:30pm; 298,000 7pm) struggled to fire, 10 was again relegated to fourth place in primetime as The Masked Singer Australia (414,000 avg (371,000 show; 458,000 reveal)) pushed hard however continued to be down week-on-week (though it did have some sizeable competition in AFL states). Have You Been Paying Attention? (472,000) also suffered at the hands of the medal count. Repeats of Inspired Unemployed (Impractical) Jokers (125,000) and FBI: Most Wanted (65,000) closed out the schedule.

10 fourth in primary (10.7%) and third in network (15.4%) rankings.

SBS

SBS had a quiet night that started with Finding Your Roots (91,000), and followed through to Britain’s Most Expensive Houses (53,000) and a repeat of World’s Most Luxurious Holidays (35,000).

SBS fifth in both primary (2.5%) and network (5.1%) rankings.
