Big night for the FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP and for THE ASHES meant that anything that wasn’t sport really struggled.

Channel 7

After Home & Away (499,000) nearly broke it’s own glass ceiling it was time for the game that seemingly everyone was waiting for, and with a 4-0 result to Australia the viewers were rewarded (and Seven was with amazing numbers):
FIFA Women’s World Cup Pre-Game (616,000);
FIFA Women’s World Cup: CAN v AUS (1,548,000);
and FIFA Women’s World Cup Post-Game (992,000).
The Blacklist (90,000) finished out the night with a larger than usual crowd.

Seven first in both primary (34.1%) and network (43%) rankings.

Channel 9

On any other night Nine would have smashed it, however A Current Affair (716,000) did offer a good start and The Ashes: Fifth Test Day 5 S1 (543,000) did keep the audience watching into the wee hours, though it couldn’t compete with a now-temporarily-women’s-football-mad nation. It was clear a fair few turned over after the game, reflected in the numbers for The Ashes: Fifth Test Day 5 Lunch (754,000).

Nine second in both primary (22.3%) and network (27.8%) rankings.

Channel 10

The Project (179,000 6:30pm; 297,000 7pm)
draws a reasonable audience before it all got started on the other commercial networks. Subsequently, Hunted Australia (362,000) and Have You Been Paying Attention? (362,000) both suffered, the latter especially (nearly 200k down week on week). Repeats of Celia Pacquola: Let Me Know How It All Works Out (109,000) and FBI: Most Wanted (43,000) offered something different for those not enraptured with big and small balls.

10 third in both primary (8.7%) and network (12.8%) rankings.

ABC

The ABC struggled after 7:30 (425,000) with pretty much everything feeling at least a 100-200k pinch. Back Roads (328,000) suffered least, while Four Corners (236,000), Media Watch (271,000), and Q+A (143,000) all saw sizeable drops.

ABC fourth in both primary (8.6%) and network (11.5%) rankings.

SBS

Nothing SBS threw at the screen had much of a chance, though welded on viewers enjoyed a night of Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes (69,000), The Great House Revival (61,000), and 24 Hours in Emergency (47,000).

SBS fifth in both primary (2.4%) and network (4.9%) rankings.
