Fiji’s pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters have once again made it a top destination for tourists looking for a tropical paradise. However, for the locals, the beautiful shoreline represents a threat to their way of life due to climate change.
On this week’s episode of Foreign Correspondent, special guest reporter Craig Reucassel travels through the Fijian islands to see how the country is combating the effects of climate change. Craig ventures off the beaten tourist track and shows the reality of living with climate change for those who can’t afford to argue about it.
The Fijian government has already listed more than 800 villages as at high risk due to climate change, and some communities have been relocated to higher ground.
However, others are resistant to moving. There is also growing concern over who is responsible for the problem and who should pay for the necessary solutions.
