KATE THE GREAT
Barely a day goes by without the British Royal Family courting controversy. But as Tom Steinfort reports, Kate Middleton, one-time commoner and now the Duchess of Cambridge, has emerged as a potential saviour for the beleaguered royals. When she married William, many dismissed her importance, but a decade on, her no-nonsense approach to royal life is now considered an endearing strength. And in an exclusive interview with 60 MINUTES, Kate’s uncle, Gary Goldsmith, reveals why the future Queen Catherine is ready to wear the crown right now.

MIND GAMES
This story presented a serious dilemma for Sarah Abo because for the most part it is pure fantasy, and 60 MINUTES reporters prefer to deal in facts. But pure fantasy is how to best sum up QAnon, an ever-shifting mega-conspiracy theory that’s bizarre and nonsensical. As whacky as it is though, millions of people appear to be caught up in the internet-based cult, including more and more Australians. The dangerous real-world consequences of QAnon, where families are being torn apart, now demand that the rest of us stop scratching our heads in disbelief and start to take much more notice of this strange group.

THE LABRADORABLES
Just like 2020, COVID-19 has made 2021 a dog of a year. So, with some help from two adorable Labradors, it’s time for smiles to replace snarls. Olive and Mabel are the best friends of Andrew Cotter, a famous Scottish sports commentator. He was forced off air when the pandemic first hit but refused to take unemployment lying down. Instead he took his microphone home and made Olive and Mabel his sport. Andrew saw magic in the mundane lives of his mutts and in doing so turned them into worldwide internet sensations.
