ABC News Breakfast takes top spot over SUNRISE and TODAY

The breakfast battle has taken a new twist with viewers choosing the ABC over its commercial rivals.

It was the shock result no one saw coming, but the ABC’s team of Michael Rowland and Lisa Millar has been voted the best breakfast TV team by readers of TV Blackbox.

Rowland and Millar host the ABC’s News Breakfast program from Melbourne each morning.

With over 6,000 votes cast in our exclusive poll, the win shows the ABC duo have a strong fan base who are willing to support them.

Although Channel 7’s Sunrise is the daily ratings winner each morning, this vote was about the main hosts of each show and their chemistry.

Recently Nat Barr replaced Sam Armytage on Sunrise while the teaming up of Karl Stefanovic and Alison Langdon has led to ratings growth over at Nine.

The important thing to note here is that ratings are made up of many factors, but chemistry plays an important part. What this result shows is that the ABC has the right team. Indeed, News Breakfast has occasionaly ranked #2 in the time slot, ahead of the TODAY show.

This result should give the ABC confidence it is on the right path.

While News Breakfast led the pack by a country mile, Channel 9’s TODAY show came in second ahead of Sunrise.

  1. Hi Rob,
A bit of a blast from the past.
Just a note to say how much I enjoy your website. I’ve still got enough of the old industry to occasionally seek out ratings info and tvblackbox is the go-to source.
Hope life is treating you well.
    Phil Lynch

  2. … now, now, Robert … you’ve been having a real go at the 10 Network for misleading phraseology and then come out with a headline like that … as Hinch/Hunch would say “Shame” …

  3. The commercial stations are so staged they are all comedians contrived laughter and all talking at once makes me sick.
