German crime drama THE WITNESSES arrives at SBS On Demand

The Witnesses is a tense, highly emotional series that explores the power of memories and how little we can trust them.

A ten-year-old girl is kidnapped in the middle of the crowded Natural History Museum in Berlin. Nobody claims responsibility. There’s no ransom demand. The only key to her rescue seems to be buried in the memories of those who witnessed the incident.

The girl’s father, a prominent politician, insists the brilliant researcher Dr. Jasmin Braun (Alexandra Maria Lara) assists with the investigation.

She is tasked with evaluating the memories of eight key witnesses so she can reconstruct the crime exactly as it unfolded.

With time running out to save the missing girl, Dr. Braun finds herself pulled into a web of deceit and intrigue as the twists, turns and double crossing reveal that the case is an intricate revenge plot, in which she has to confront difficult memories of her own.

In German with English subtitles.

The Witnesses – Australian Premiere Thursday, 5 August 2021 on SBS On Demand (all eight episodes available to stream)
