Barely a day goes by without the British Royal Family courting controversy.

In the latest drama, Princes William and Harry have made extraordinary public comments shaming the BBC for the way it deceived their mother, Princess Diana.

The brothers’ anger follows the findings of an investigation by a former Supreme Court judge which determined that star BBC reporter Martin Bashir not only lied but falsified documents to convince Diana to agree to a tell-all interview about Prince Charles back in 1995.

Lord Dyson was also scathing in his condemnation of the BBC for its cover-up. The British broadcaster has now apologised for its actions, as well as for the long-term damage its shoddy journalism caused members of the Royal Family. However, despite this and other royal crises, including the recent death of the Duke of Edinburgh and the ongoing sex scandal involving Prince Andrew, there is some positive news for Buckingham Palace.

As Tom Steinfort reports, Kate Middleton, one-time commoner and now the Duchess of Cambridge, has emerged as a potential saviour for the beleaguered royals. When she married William, many dismissed her importance, but a decade on, her no-nonsense approach to royal life is now considered an endearing strength.

And in an exclusive interview with 60 MINUTES, Kate’s uncle, Gary Goldsmith, reveals why the future Queen Catherine is ready to wear the crown right now.

Today Nick and Anthony are not only business partners, they’re billionaires. And that idea they had? It’s the financial phenomenon now called AfterPay, a revolutionary payment platform transforming the way people shop around the world.

SUGAR HIT

On The Apprentice TV show, Lord Alan Sugar is the rough and gruff boss dishing out entrepreneurial advice laced with expletives.

Away from television he is the rough and gruff businessman who created a vast fortune by building an electronics empire. Think Dick Smith with a mean attitude and you’re on the right track.

But as Sarah Abo discovers, Sugar’s Midas touch has not only made him a billionaire, it has also turned him into a British national treasure. And for this cantankerous cockney, that has to be the most surprising achievement of all.
