Peter Helliar is heading to sea for Nine’s new culinary series Chefs Ahoy, one of the latest brand-funded programs to make its way into primetime.
Announced as part of Nine’s Upfronts last week, the new series sees chefs visit destinations including Greece, Japan, Spain and South Korea before returning to the cruise ship to prepare dishes for its passengers.
Set aboard Princess Cruises’ Sun Princess and Diamond Princess, the partnership puts the cruise line front and centre, with its vessels providing the backdrop for the new series and its brand integrated throughout.
Hosted by comedian and former The Project co-host Pete Helliar, each episode pairs two chefs in a head-to-head culinary challenge, with up to 4,000 passengers ultimately deciding the winner at The Captain’s Dinner.
The line-up includes Minoli De Silva and Courtney Roulston competing in Greece, Miguel Maestre and Dan Hong facing off in Japan, Mark LaBrooy and Khanh Ong going head-to-head in Spain, and Vincent Yeow Lim and Alice Zaslavsky taking on South Korea.
The chefs will explore the local food culture in each destination before returning to the ship, where they must scale up their dishes and prepare them alongside the cruise line’s kitchen crew.
The finished dishes are then served to passengers, who determine which chef takes the win in each episode.
The series is an original Rawkus production, the company also behind Jamie Durie’s Growing Home, which airs on Nine, and is made in association with Princess Cruises for the Nine Network.
