Seven’s live Brownlow coverage returns tonight as the AFL’s Grand Final week gets underway, with the count kicking off a big week of football across the network.
7 News Melbourne sport presenter Rebecca Maddern and Seven AFL commentator Hamish McLachlan return to host the coverage together for a fourth consecutive year, broadcasting from Crown Melbourne.
Collingwood midfielder Nick Daicos heads into the night as the player to watch, with the AFL’s Brownlow Predictor tipping him to poll 47 votes.
Geelong’s Bailey Smith and Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli are also among the players expected to feature prominently in the count.
The Brownlow follows a weekend of preliminary finals that confirmed the AFL Grand Final matchup, with Fremantle defeating Sydney by 12 points at the SCG before Brisbane overcame Hawthorn by nine points at the MCG.
The Dockers and Lions will now meet in Saturday’s decider, with Brisbane aiming for a third consecutive premiership after reaching its fourth straight Grand Final.
Tonight’s broadcast begins with the Brownlow Red Carpet, with Abbey Holmes joined by Emma Freedman, Dale Thomas and Matthew Richardson to speak with players and their partners before the count begins at 8pm AEST.
The Mark of the Year, Goal of the Year and Jim Stynes Community Award will also be announced during the evening, with the Brownlow Medal winner expected to be revealed at around 10.10pm.
The Brownlow marks the beginning of Seven’s AFL Grand Final week, with The Agenda Setters, the Dennis Cometti documentary Centimetre Perfect and a Grand Final edition of The Front Bar among the programming leading into Saturday’s decider.
