Four artists have secured places in the The Voice Grand Finale, with Daisha Auda, Yung Milla, Tommy Novak and The 60Four surviving the Semi Final and advancing to the final public vote.
The Semi Final, broadcast on Seven and 7plus, saw each of The Voice Coaches select one artist to continue in the competition, leaving the final result in the hands of Australian viewers.
Yung Milla, representing Team Melanie C, advanced after performing Men At Work’s Land Down Under. The performance incorporated didgeridoo, choir, personal storytelling and an original rap as he presented a new interpretation of the Australian song.
The Northern Territory artist drew on his experiences growing up and paid tribute to his mother, who he credits with teaching him resilience and helping shape the person he is today.
His mother also made a surprise appearance at the end of the performance, with the moment drawing an emotional response from the audience and Coaches.
Melanie C became emotional as she reflected on the performance and the creative direction given to Yung Milla.
“So powerful.
I was so worried I’d thrown too much at you.”
Kate Miller-Heidke also praised the performance and its interpretation of the song.
“You turned the song on its head and gave it extra potency, power, a little bit of darkness and a lot of hope.
I’m in awe.”
Richard Marx offered another strong assessment of Yung Milla and his approach to the performance.
“Every once in a while, somebody comes along who revolutionises the genre, who revolutionises an artform and, Yung Milla, you are that guy.”
Tommy Novak, from Team Richard, booked his place in the Grand Finale with a performance of Robbie Williams’ Angels.
After previously challenging Tommy to trust his instincts and avoid overthinking his performances, Richard Marx praised the singer’s development during the competition.
Melanie C described the rendition as “amazing”, while Ronan Keating told him:
“In your heart you should feel like a winner.”
Daisha Auda, representing Team Kate, secured her position in the final after performing Andra Day’s Rise Up.
Melanie C praised the 15-year-old performer’s maturity and stage presence, while Kate Miller-Heidke highlighted her versatility.
Kate described Daisha, who has never had a singing lesson, as having “so much soul” and said she was always willing to take on a challenge.
Completing the Grand Final line-up was The 60Four, the only band remaining in the competition.
Representing Team Ronan, the South Australian group performed Earth, Wind & Fire’s September, combining choreography with the harmonies that have featured throughout their appearances on the program.
Ronan Keating praised the group for their “insane vocals” as well as their character, telling them they were “a credit to yourselves and your parents”.
Richard Marx also praised the consistency of The 60Four across the competition.
“Performance after performance, you never hit a false note.
You are so impressive.”
The Semi Final also marked the end of the competition for Charlotte June, Leyla Sabo, Taylor Beadle-Williams and Tika Cetinich, who were eliminated after their performances.
With the Coaches having made their final selections, voting is now open for viewers to decide the winner from Daisha Auda, The 60Four, Tommy Novak and Yung Milla.
The winner will receive a $100,000 cash prize and an all-inclusive recording and development package from Hive Sound Studios, along with the title of The Voice Australia winner.
