Fox Sports is set to disappear from Australian screens in 2027, with Foxtel Group bringing its three-decade-old sports brand together with Kayo Sports in one of the biggest changes to its sports offering in years.

The changes, unveiled at the Foxtel Group Upfront on Thursday evening, will see Fox Footy, Fox Cricket and Fox League renamed Kayo Footy, Kayo Cricket and Kayo League, while the remaining Fox Sports channels will become Kayo Sports.

The move will bring the two brands under the Kayo Sports name while retaining Fox Sports’ existing talent, journalism and production teams.

  1. Will the full suite of current Kayo sports become available for legacy Foxtel customers?

Otherwise, how will they make clear which Kayo customers can see which sport?

    • I don’t think there is anything Kayo has that Fox Sports doesn’t, although sometimes due to too many live sports at the same time some things aren’t shown live, although this could be easily fixed with extra intercity only channels.

  2. I don’t watch the other sports channels but Fox League needs a major shake up and overhaul content presenter’s and commentator’s it’s become borderline unwatchable like NRL 360 being repeated 13 or 14 times in 24 hours is ridiculous especially when it can be streamed if missed if channel 9 cover a game l watch 9 and l pay good money to foxtel

    • Andrew Fielding Fox League is awful during the week. They need more shows on there even if they are just podcasts. There was a story yesterday had Channel 9 got all the rights along with Stan they were going to have 24 hour NRL channel on free to air & their podcasts were going to be a big part of the line up. Come to think of it Fox Cricket is the same they need some shows during the summer as well.

  3. What a waste of a rebrand. There are often more live sports than channels available and with the amount of internet connectivity these days they could have used this opportunity to add a range of new channels, delivered via internet to make sure no sport was ever missed or provide multiple options for the same program (which is already available for Kayo subscribers), show longer form replays and to show their back catalogue of sports and programs at other times.

They could have also used the rebrand to create 24/7 Golf and motorsports channel given they practically have one already (probably move Golf to 507 as they use 503 for overflow AFL games).

I also hope they are giving all Foxtel Sport customers free access to the Kayo app as part of this rebrand. Imagine buying access to Kayo Sports and not being able to access Kayo?

  4. So is it going to be available on foxtel or just the Kayo app? Fox footy on 504 is iconic and easy to access. If it leaves that channel for just the kayo app I’m leaving Foxtel and my iq5.

  5. they have to secure the ICC tournaments going forward. I’m sick of having to watch World Cup etc on Disney or Prime. If they can’t secure these, what’s the point??

    • Yes. Watching how poorly Prime make the highlights makes you appreciate the efforts Foxtel go to making the highlights flow smoothly.

  6. I am a Foxtel subscriber. In plain language will I need to do anything such as join Kayo or will my current Foxtel subscription cover Kayo Sport.

  7. WHY – Kayo is essentially the streaming service that takes ALL channels that appear on the Satellite Network

KAYO is the same as what 9Now is to Nine and 7plus is to Seven 10plus to Ten

  8. Can we spend some money on the kayo app. It rates 1.3 for a reason. I have to delete and reinstate it every 2 or 3 days for it to work on my Google tele. They have put the price up twice now without consultation and trying to get helpdesk support from Hubbl is hopeless. No problem them taking over but at least give us punters a decent product first!

  9. They’ve done it for the same reason they’ve rebranded the news channels. Since DAZN took over from Murdoch- they’ve had to pay a licence fee to use the “Sky” and “Fox” brands – by renaming they don’t have to spend that money.

The “Foxtel” name itself (which probably comes from when it was owned by News and Telstra) will probably change as well in the not too distant future!

    • Nik Stace for Fox yes, but not Sky. Murdoch still owns News24, that channel wasn’t part of the sale. And they were paying a license fee to use Sky, as Sky News UK is owned by Comcast. But Comcast refused to renew the licensing deal, as they were horrified people associated the content on the Australian channel with them.

  10. Hope they get rid of Voss as commentator on fox league he’s absolute pain to listen to try’s to be ref, bunker and every if the game doesn’t go his way will replay incident over and over again to get in the ref and bunkers head absolute flog.

  11. So, as a fifo worker in Western Australia, I will no longer have access to sports coverage when on site. At present Kayo is unavailable in certain remote postcodes and Foxtel is. Will Kayo be addressing this current arrangement?
