As a boy in Queensland, Petey had a childhood best friend he never got over: an alien named Allen, who vanished without a goodbye. Twenty years later, he’s back, but be careful what you wish for. Allen has a secret big enough to change the world, and Petey will have to finally grow up to help save it.

Set against the backdrop of a Queensland coastal town, Allen blends Australian nostalgia, friendship and adventure, with the trailer offering a first look at the film’s unusual alien visitor and the trouble that follows his return.

The film stars T.J. Power (Offspring, The Sapphires) alongside Charlotte Nicdao, Josh Helman, Emily Barclay and Benedict Hardie. Pearson co-directs with Jeffrey Walker, with the screenplay written by Pearson and Sophie Miller.

Produced by Brisbane-based Ludo Studio, the team behind Bluey and Thou Shalt Not Steal, Allen marks the studio’s first locally made live-action feature film for Netflix with production taking place across Queensland, including in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

A Brisbane-based special screening featuring cast and crew will take place next month, ahead of the film’s streaming release.

Allen premieres globally on Netflix on 12 November.
