Angus and Simon have struggled to back up their big talk on My Kitchen Rules last night, scoring just 55 points for their Instant Restaurant.

The South Australian best mates returned to Last Orders hoping to improve on their first-round score of 70. Instead, a disappointing dessert and questionable accompaniments left the judges unimpressed.

Their menu featured Duck and Shiitake Dumplings with Orange and Anise Sauce for entrée, Lamb Cutlets with Nam Jim Jaew and a Pickled Salad for main, and Bread and Butter Pudding with Black Sesame Ice Cream for dessert.

The dumplings offered an encouraging start, despite some being heavily charred and the filling needing refinement. Colin Fassnidge and Manu Feildel praised the flavour, with Manu particularly impressed by the sauce.

“I loved the sauce; I think it was well balanced. It had a good amount of acidity,” he said.

Both judges awarded the entrée seven points.

The main course proved more divisive. While the lamb was beautifully cooked, the accompaniments failed to convince. Manu questioned the place of the Nam Jim Jaew on the plate, while Colin described the pickled salad and pineapple as “a little bit of a mess”.

Both judges scored the dish five.

Dessert was the biggest letdown. The homemade bread was too heavy to absorb the custard, leaving the puddings dry and dense. Colin awarded it four points, while Manu gave it just three.

The cooking wasn’t the only drama of the night. Encouraged by Alisha and Deanne, Zoe entered the kitchen to confront the boys over their comments at the previous Instant Restaurant.

“Hello. It’s your favourite guest of all, your weakest link, allegedly,” she announced, making it clear she wanted an apology.

Simon agreed to revisit the matter after dessert and sealed the promise with a handshake.

The final scores made for uncomfortable reading. Colin Fassnidge and Manu Feildel awarded Angus and Simon 31 out of 60, while the guest teams contributed 24 out of 50. Alisha and Deanne gave them just three points.

“Very rare for me to not have words at the moment,” Simon said.

Manu was less lost for words.

“You over-promised and under-delivered, gentlemen; you’re very lucky to still be in a competition right now.”

The result leaves Angus and Simon on 55 points, just one ahead of Alisha and Deanne, who remain at the bottom of the leaderboard on 54. With Newcastle friends Zoe and Zac still to cook, the pressure is on before the next elimination.
