The Great Australian Bake Off returns with 12 new home bakers ready to impress
The Great Australian Bake Off is heading back to Foxtel and BINGE, with season nine premiering in August as a fresh group of amateur bakers step into the famous Bake Off shed.
Across 10 weeks, 12 home bakers will take on 30 challenges, testing their baking skills, creativity and composure in the hope of being crowned Australia’s Best Amateur Baker.
Returning to oversee the competition are judges Rachel Khoo and Darren Purchese, alongside hosts Natalie Tran and Tom Walker.
Darren Purchese said this year’s contestants had delivered some remarkable creations.
“The talent in the shed this year is phenomenal.
Viewers are in for a real treat.”
Rachel Khoo said the new season offered something for both dedicated fans and first-time viewers.
“It’s full of heart, delectable sweet and savoury creations and it’s not to be missed.”
Meet the season nine bakers
The bakers competing this season are:
- Anita Birdi, 54, medical receptionist
- Branden Khou, 29, financial client manager
- Glenn Jones, 51, IT project manager
- Jacob Amarant, 33, marketing lead
- Lucy Barnes, 44, bookkeeper
- Matt Perillo-Phipps, 44, emergency nurse
- Melanie Clements, 62, jewellery sales manager
- Negin Yaghmaie, 30, MRI scientist
- Nick Cerchiara, 30, warehouse manager
- Pamela Buchanan, 41, stay-at-home mum
- Peter Kennedy-Gane, 60, retired alpaca farmer
- Sherrett Bone, 42, finance officer
Challenges inspired by mythology, the outdoors and more
Contestants will again face the show’s familiar mix of signature challenges, technical bakes and elaborate showstoppers.
According to Foxtel, this season’s creations include mythology-inspired filo bakes, floating biscuit boats and edible remote-control vehicle cakes.
The competition will also feature a Great Outdoors Week, with challenges inspired by campfire classics.
