One of Channel 9’s most experienced journalists is taking on a permanent role at the 9News Sydney desk, with Mark Burrows appointed presenter of the network’s Friday and Saturday 6pm bulletins.
The appointment comes as little surprise, with Burrows a familiar face to viewers after years of filling in on the bulletin and widely regarded as the natural successor following Georgie Gardner’s recent departure.
While the move formalises his position at the desk, Burrows will continue his reporting duties as Senior Correspondent, a role that has seen him cover some of Australia’s biggest news stories and major international events across more than four decades.
His career has included reporting on the Bali bombings, the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Ukraine, the Romanian Revolution, the death of Princess Diana and the Sydney Olympics, earning both Logie and Walkley recognition along the way.
9 News Sydney Director Michael Best said Burrows’ experience and credibility made him an ideal choice for the role.
“Mark is one of the most trusted and experienced journalists in the country.”
Burrows said he was honoured to officially take on the position after decades with the network.
“After so many years reporting for Channel 9, it’s a deep privilege to step into this role and continue bringing Sydney viewers the stories that matter.”
Burrows joins the Sydney presenting team alongside Peter Overton and Deborah Knight while continuing to report for 9News as Senior Correspondent.
