UKTV is set to bring the glamour of the EE British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) directly to Australian screens, with a live premiere scheduled for Monday, February 19, at 8.30 pm. Viewers will also have the option to stream the ceremony On Demand.

The BAFTAs, a highlight of the global film industry’s awards season, will take place at the esteemed Royal Festival Hall on London’s Southbank Centre. The event will be hosted by Scottish actor David Tennant, promising an evening filled with distinguished performances, exclusive interviews, and the awarding of trophies before an audience of cinema’s brightest stars.

This year’s BAFTA nominations spotlight an exceptional array of films, signalling a remarkable year for cinema. Leading the pack is Oppenheimer with thirteen nominations, followed closely by Poor Things with eleven. Killers of the Flower Moon and The Zone of Interest each boast nine nominations, while Anatomy of a Fall, The Holdover, and Maestro have garnered seven each. All of Us Strangers is in contention with six nominations, and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie rounds out the list with five.

Australian talent shines among the nominees, with Margot Robbie receiving a leading actress nomination for her role in Barbie. Jacob Elordi is up for supporting actor in Saltburn and also competes in the rising star category. Tony McNamara is in the running for the adapted screenplay award for Poor Things.

Key categories include ‘best film’, with nominations for Anatomy, The Holdovers, Killers of the Flower Moon, Oppenheimer, and Poor Things. The leading actress category features Fantasia Barrino (The Color Purple), Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall), Carey Mulligan (Maestro), Vivian Oparah (Rye Lane), Margot Robbie (Barbie), and Emma Stone (Poor Things).

Leading actor nominees are Bradley Cooper (Maestro), Colman Domingo (Rustin), Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers), Barry Keoghan (Saltburn), Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer), and Teo Yoo (Past Lives). Directors in the running include Andrew Haigh (All of Us Strangers), Justine Triet (Anatomy of a Fall), Alexander Payne (The Holdovers), Bradley Cooper (Maestro), Christopher Nolan (Oppenheimer), and Jonathan Glazer (The Zone of Interest).

The ceremony promises to be an unmissable event, with UKTV offering live coverage on Monday, February 19, at 8.30 pm. The awards will also be accessible On Demand for those who wish to stream at their convenience.
