Network 10 have dropped the second seasons of the hugely successful UK and USA version of The Traitors franchise on the free streaming platform 10 Play.
The UK version, hosted by television and radio presenter Claudia Winkleman, recently wrapped its second season to record viewing audiences with the finale reaching a peak audience of 6.9 million, more than double the season 1 finale and has already been renewed for a third season.
Meanwhile the USA version, hosted by Scottish actor Alan Cumming, has so far premiered six out of eleven episodes + a planned reunion episode and is also enjoying a bump in ratings to be Peacock’s most watched reality premiere up 75% from season 1, so a third season renewal seems likely.
Both versions are produced by British television production company Studio Lambert, the same producer behind popular formats including Squid Games: The Challenge, Gogglebox, The Circle, and Travel Guides, and are filmed in the same castle in the Scottish highlands sharing the same location, props, and missions, with the main difference being the hosts.
Two seasons of the hit overseas format were produced by Endemol Shine Australia for Channel 10 in 2022 and 2023 and hosted by actor Rodger Corser with both seasons premiering to mild reception from audiences, regularly rating in the mid 200k’s based on overnight 5 capital city viewers, with the show not landing a third season renewal for 2024.
The Traitors format is based on the Dutch series titled De Verraders, and follows a group of contestants, also known as Faithfuls, as they live together in a majestic old hotel where they must use their wits to complete challenges in order to win a share or all of the available prize pool. However, in a deadly twist, some of the Faithfuls are actually Traitors, and it’s their mission to lie, deceive, and manipulate their way to the prize by eliminating the Faithfuls one by one.
With the first seasons of both versions also available to watch on subscription streaming service Paramount+ in Australia, and despite the removal of a number of local and international titles from the service last week, it may be likely that Paramount ANZ will make Season 2 of both international version available on there in the near future.
