Apple TV+ has confirmed the renewal of its gripping thriller series Hijack for a second season, featuring Idris Elba in the lead role, who also serves as an executive producer.

The show, hailed for its intense drama and thrilling narrative, was created by George Kay and Jim Field Smith, with its entire first season currently available for streaming.

Since its launch, Hijack has quickly ascended to become a standout drama on Apple TV+, garnering praise from critics and audiences alike. It has achieved a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and made its way into the Nielsen Streaming Originals Top 10 list. Critics have described the series as “instantly enthralling,” lauding its “crisp and tense” execution and the “tension-filled and gripping” experience it offers. Elba’s performance, in particular, has been spotlighted for its commanding presence.

Jay Hunt, Apple TV+‘s creative director for Europe, expressed excitement over the audience’s captivated reception to Elba’s performance and looks forward to delivering an equally enthralling second season in collaboration with 60Forty and Idiotlamp.

Elba shared his excitement about the audience’s response to the first season and teased a high-octane narrative for Sam Nelson in the upcoming season, though specifics remain under wraps.

The production of the second season will see Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, and Tom Nash of 60Forty Films, and Kay and Field Smith of Idiotlamp Productions, returning as executive producers. Field Smith will also continue his role as the lead director for the series.
