Margot Robbie Honoured with 2024 AACTA Trailblazer Award

Robbie will be officially presented with the award at the 2024 AACTA Awards Ceremony, sponsored by Foxtel Group. The event is scheduled for Saturday 10 February at HOTA in the picturesque Gold Coast. The ceremony will be broadcast live on Channel Ten at 7pm AEDT.

Renowned for her dynamic and versatile acting skills, Robbie has garnered critical acclaim and worldwide recognition. Her portrayal of figure skater Tonya Harding in I, Tonya, and a young woman battling workplace toxicity in Bombshell, have both led to Academy Award nominations.

Her career took a significant leap with her role in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, where she played Naomi Lapaglia. Additionally, her captivating performances as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey have been particularly noteworthy for their complexity and depth.

Beyond acting, Robbie has made significant strides in production through her company, LuckyChap. She has been instrumental in creating female-centric narratives, as seen in her works like I, Tonya, Birds of Prey, and Promising Young Woman. Her dual role as lead actress and producer in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie has not only achieved a remarkable global box office success of over $1.4 billion but also challenged traditional female character stereotypes.

In her response to receiving the award, Margot Robbie expressed her profound honour:

“I am truly honoured to accept the AACTA Trailblazer Award, especially in my hometown on the Gold Coast.

Australia has always been my grounding force, and to receive this recognition here is incredibly special. I believe in the power of storytelling and the impact it can have on shaping culture and inspiring others.

This award is a testament to the incredible talent and dedication of everyone involved in the film community, and I am thrilled to be a part of it.

Thank you to AACTA for this tremendous honour and I look forward to celebrating with the Australian screen industry in Queensland next month.”

The AACTA Trailblazer Award, previously awarded to notable personalities like Chris Hemsworth, Rose Byrne, Simon Baker, and Isla Fisher, acknowledges an Australian screen practitioner whose work has significantly inspired others. The AFI | AACTA Board selects the recipient, considering their valuable role in promoting Australian screen culture both domestically and internationally.

Tickets for the event are currently available for purchase. Additionally, a special director’s cut, inclusive of all the awards, will be accessible from 7:30 pm on Sunday 11 February on BINGE, Foxtel On-Demand, and AACTA TV.

The AACTA Awards form a key part of the AACTA Festival, a four-day celebration starting from February 8 through February 11, 2024. The festival features over 90 events, including panels, screenings, and meet-and-greets, culminating in a special free screening at AACTA’s Barbie BBQ Bash on Friday 9 February at HOTA.

The AACTA, a not-for-profit organisation, is dedicated to endorsing and celebrating excellence in the Australian screen industry. It represents a wide range of screen crafts and has been acknowledging Australia’s highest achievements in film and television through the AACTA Awards for over 60 years.

These awards, considered Australia’s most prestigious in the screen industry, celebrate a diverse range of productions and recognise prominent industry figures.
