Launching today, Sky News Australia is set to broaden its digital footprint with the launch of its own streaming application, offering around-the-clock news coverage and a suite of prime-time programs.
This new digital venture is a move to provide viewers with more versatile viewing options.
Subscribers to this service will have the opportunity to engage with the channel’s extensive 24/7 live broadcasts. The app’s programming includes evening shows hosted by personalities such as Peta Credlin, Andrew Bolt, Paul Murray, Sharri Markson, and Chris Kenny.
Additionally, viewers can also tune into shows like Outsiders with Rowan Dean, Rita Panahi, and James Morrow.
Priced at an affordable rate of $5 monthly, this service is positioned as a competitive option in the streaming market, particularly in comparison to Foxtel’s Flash service. Flash offers a broader range of over 25 live news streaming channels, including Sky News, CNN, Fox News, BBC, and MSNBC, at a slightly higher price of $8 per month.
Reflecting on the launch, Sky News Australia’s CEO, Paul Whittaker, emphasized the significant online audience growth experienced by the channel.
“We’ve seen exceptional growth across our digital platforms over the past few years as more than eight million Australians seek out our content online each month, while across broadcast platforms we continue to bring Australians a premium viewing experience.“
Mr. Whittaker highlighted the subscription’s unique offerings, noting,
“The streaming subscription provides a new way for visitors to our website and app to stream our live breaking news and award-winning political coverage, original documentaries, and top-rating opinion shows across four news channels.“
He further added,
“Subscribers will be able to stream their favourite Sky News channel shows live and in full, as well as on demand shortly after the live broadcast.“
In addition to the video content, subscribers will gain access to Sky News Australia’s new afternoon newsletter, Primetime Briefing. This daily newsletter will keep viewers informed about the most significant interviews and stories scheduled for the channel’s evening programming.
