Prime Video’s Expats, starring Nicole Kidman, debuts with its intriguing Hong Kong narrative on 26 January 2024.
Prime Video has unveiled the key artwork for its upcoming six-part limited series, Expats. This eagerly anticipated show, directed by Lulu Wang, is adapted from Janice Y. K. Lee’s internationally acclaimed novel, The Expatriates.
Scheduled to make its debut with a double episode on 26 January 2024, Expats will continue to captivate audiences with weekly episodes, culminating in a gripping finale on 23 February 2024.
Set in the dynamic backdrop of 2014 Hong Kong, Expats delves into the lives of three American women – Margaret (Nicole Kidman), Hilary (Sarayu Blue), and Mercy (Ji-young Yoo).
Their paths cross in the wake of a shattering family tragedy, leading to a profound exploration of privilege and the fine line between being a victim and culpable. Brian Tee portrays Margaret’s husband Clarke, while Jack Huston takes on the role of Hilary’s spouse, David.
The series boasts a stellar cast, including Nicole Kidman, an actress renowned for her Academy Award and Emmy-winning performances in Big Little Lies and The Undoing. Alongside Kidman, the cast features Sarayu Blue (Never Have I Ever, Blockers), Ji-young Yoo (The Sky Is Everywhere, Smoking Tigers), Brian Tee (Chicago Med, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows), and Jack Huston (House of Gucci, Fargo).
Kidman and Wang are not only prominent figures in front of the camera but also serve as executive producers behind the scenes.
The creative force behind Expats is Lulu Wang, who not only directed but also created and wrote for the series. Joining her in the executive production team is Daniele Melia for Local Time and Nicole Kidman, collaborating with Per Saari for Blossom Films (Rabbit Hole, Nine Perfect Strangers). Australian screenwriter Alice Bell (The Beautiful Lie, The Slap), the first writer to join the project, also contributes significantly.
The executive production team is rounded out by Theresa Park for Per Capita Productions (After Yang, Bones and All) and Stan Wlodkowski (The Old Guard). In addition to Bell and Wang, the series’ writing team includes Vera Miao (Two Sentence Horror Stories), Gursimran Sandhu (Game of Thrones), and the novel’s author, Janice Y. K. Lee.
