The latest addition to the 7plus roster, A Friend of the Family, premiered today.
This gripping nine-part true crime drama is inspired by the unsettling real-life events surrounding the Broberg family.
In an astonishing turn of events that has captivated true crime aficionados for years, the narrative centres on the Broberg’s eldest daughter, Jan. Over an extended period, Jan was abducted multiple times by a cunning family ‘acquaintance’.
Despite being deeply rooted in their faith and community, the Broberg family was ill-equipped to counteract the advanced manipulative techniques deployed by their neighbour. These tactics not only exploited the family’s vulnerabilities but also sought to alienate Jan from her loved ones.
The cast showcases a medley of exceptional talent. Academy Award winner Anna Paquin (notable for roles in Flack, The Irishman, and True Blood) headlines the series. Joining her are Emmy nominees Jake Lacy (The White Lotus, Being the Ricardos) and Colin Hanks (The Offer, Impeachment: American Crime Story). Additionally, Mckenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Afterlife, The Handmaid’s Tale), Lio Tipton (The Edge of Sleep, Why Women Kill), Hendrix Yancey (George & Tammy, Unbelievable), Austin Stowell (The Hating Game, Three Women), Patrick Fischler (American Crime Story: Impeachment, The Right Stuff), Bree Elrod (Red Rocket), and Philip Ettinger (First Reformed, Angelyne) grace the series with their performances.
Behind the scenes, Nick Antosca (The Act, Channel Zero) wears multiple hats, holding positions as the showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Alex Hedlund and Eliza Hittman contribute as executive producers, with Hittman also taking the director’s chair for several episodes. Lending a personal touch, Jan and Mary Broberg are onboard as producers.
