Mother-son team, Sonia & Marcus, redefine their legacy on My Kitchen Rules.

South Australia’s Sonia and Marcus showcased their culinary prowess on My Kitchen Rules (MKR) on Tuesday evening. Bouncing back with a resounding score of 85 points, they claimed the pinnacle position on the leaderboard.

From their previous stint that witnessed tense moments resulting in less-than-perfect dishes, the mother-son duo showed commendable growth. “Last time we served stress on a plate. Tonight, we want to serve fun and love on a plate,” said Marcus.

With a desire to outdo Claudean and Anthony‘s ravioli, following Claudean’s harsh assessment of their past pasta, Sonia expressed, “If there’s any dish that we have to redeem ourselves on, it has to be this dish.”

The spotlight was on them as they presented their entrée: Ricotta and Spinach Ravioli with Butter and Sage Sauce. Notably, it received a standing ovation from the judges, even earning praise from the stern pasta critic, Claudean.

Judges Manu and Colin were both impressed. “A lesson in simplicity,” Colin noted, while Manu admired the consistent presentation of eight raviolis per plate.

Their momentum, however, experienced a bump when they tackled their main course: Rib-eye with Salsa Verde and Mash. Facing the challenge of preparing 12 steaks, the duo navigated team dynamics. Sonia reflected, “I remember last time we both went silent when things weren’t going well and that was a big problem. We can’t mess up again tonight, we’re a team.”

While guest teams had varied opinions about the main course, Manu praised their effort, stating, “I’ve gotta take my hat off because I really thought that was gonna be a nightmare.” Colin, although not entirely impressed, acknowledged their comeback, “You’ve definitely hit redemption.”

Their last act was the dessert: Passionfruit Cheesecake with Almond Crust. Known for her past standout dessert, Sonia aimed to maintain her reputation. Their delivery was once again spot on. Nick remarked, “Our number one spot is in jeopardy.”
