Last week it was announced Jelfs would join the ranks at Seven’s highly-respected horse racing commentary team.

Highly respected racing commentator Lizzie Jelfs has joined Racing.com and will headline the dedicated racing channel’s Friday night coverage.

Jelfs has signed a multi-year deal with the channel and her wealth of experience will further help showcase Victorian thoroughbred racing to the national audience across Racing.com’s unparalleled 24/7 free to air, subscription television, OTT streaming and direct-to-consumer digital offering.

Her unique insight and analysis are followed by racing fans and punters around the country, and she will impart her knowledge each week, alongside co-host James Tzaferis, to front the revamped Friday night coverage.

The news comes after Jelfs was announced to be joining Seven’s commentary team last week.

In the team led by pre-eminent sports broadcaster Bruce McAvaney, Jelfs commentates alongside Jason Richardson, Emma FreedmanKatelyn Mallyon, and Kate Waterhouse.

Jelfs is excited about the new opportunity with Racing.com and can’t wait to get started.

She said:

“I loved working for Racing.com, they gave me my first start and it’s fantastic to be back.

“I’m really looking forward to joining a great, young team and can’t wait to kick things off on Friday night at The Valley.

“We want to make Friday nights fun and relaxed yet informative and I think we have the perfect team to do that.”

Peter Campbell, Chief Executive Officer of the Victorian Thoroughbred Racing Integrated Media Business (VTRIMB), is delighted to have secured the services of Jelfs.

He said:

“Friday nights from The Valley are never going to be the same again with Lizzie joining our already impressive Racing.com team.

“Her knowledge, analysis and credibility will help reshape our live presentation as we showcase Friday nights like never before and springboard into our weekend of Victorian thoroughbred racing. Friday isn’t the end of the week – it’s the beginning of the weekend, and our coverage and personality is going to reflect that attitude.”

Hailing from England, Jelfs came to Australia on a working holiday and spent almost two decades working for legendary trainer David Hayes, who she says gave her a fantastic education and encouraged her to try her hand in the media.

Jelfs said:

“He (Hayes) taught me a lot and really encouraged me to get involved in the racing media.

“Working in a stable, I’ve built strong relationships and hope I can bring a personal approach to the coverage and tap into the myriad of great stories that exist right across the industry.”

Jelfs will commence with Racing.com on Friday 18th March, hosting the coverage of the Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes meeting from The Valley.
