Ben Murphy is the new face of 7NEWS in regional Queensland as back up reader for Rob Brough when he is on holidays.
Ben is also a Senior Reporter for 7NEWS Brisbane. He has previously served as the network’s State Political Reporter in Queensland and won several awards, including a Clarion for Best TV News Report (Antoniolli Arrest) and Best Broadcast Interview (Hanson Sex Shop).
Ben was previously the Queensland Editor for Sky News Australia. In this role he managed Sky News’ Queensland bureaus, reporters, and liaisons, in addition to reporting within the state.
While living abroad, Ben was the head of Media Relations and Issues Management for TransLink British Columbia, Metro Vancouver’s transit and transportation agency. He led a team of Communications Advisors responsible for managing high profile issues and events affecting the organisation, which comprised more than 7,000 employees. As part of this high-profile position, Ben was the Chief Spokesperson for the agency.
Ben has served as a Media, Communications and Political Adviser to two Australian cabinet ministers; the nation’s Treasurer and Minister for Trade and Investment. In these roles, he would provide advice directly to the ministers and their elected colleagues on communication and political strategies to be used during media interviews, parliamentary proceedings, and crisis situations.
Additionally, Ben has anchored news bulletins for commercial radio stations and convened a university course which taught the fundamentals of Broadcast Journalism. He holds a Master of Communication from Griffith University in Brisbane and a Bachelor of International Relations from Bond University on the Gold Coast.
