MOST POPULAR DUO FINALISTS

REBECCA GIBNEY & ERIK THOMSON (Back to the Rafters – Amazon Prime Video)

One of Australia’s favourite TV-married couples, Rebecca Gibney and Erik Thomson made their roles as husband and wife Julie and Dave Rafter two of the most beloved in Aussie TV.

Sharing the small screen together from 2008 to 2013 in Packed to the Rafters, the pair reunited in television holy matrimony for the one-season series Back to the Rafters on Amazon Prime Video.

The friendship formed off screen between Gibney and Thomson has lasted until this day, with Gibney commenting, “The older we get, we probably get on even better. There is just genuine excitement”.

Staying popular with fans ever since they found their home in Australian lounge rooms, Gibney and Thomson could easily scoop up this TV Boxie award.

LARRY EMDUR & KYLIE GILLIES (The Morning Show – Seven)

Presenting The Morning Show since it debuted in 2007, Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies are one of the longest standing and most recognisable duos on Australian television.

From 9:00am to 11:00am each weekday (and 10:00am to 12:00pm on the weekend), Emdur and Gillies are welcomed into homes with the latest news, interviews and infotainment.

The duo has made the show their own, and have become almost inseparable, also occasionally co-hosting events such as the Carols in the Domain concert.

Emdur and Gillies celebrated 14 years together on The Morning Show earlier this year, with Emdur revealing he, “didn’t even fully commit Kylie’s name to memory until about the six-month mark”.

CHRIS BROWN & JULIA MORRIS (I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! – 10)

In 2015, this formidable and some may call unlikely comedy duo was born when Chris Brown and Julia Morris were paired together to host I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

Since then, Brown and Morris have proven they’re a double act that can’t be beaten, but off-camera they share a close bond and have become fierce friends.

Commenting on her I’m A Celeb partner in crime in a 2020 interview, Morris said, “Any man that can stand alongside someone going through menopause and still be kind is a pretty good guy. I adore him”.

With the eighth season of the show just around the corner, will this duo kick it all off with a spectacular win at the TV Boxies?

KARL STEFANOVIC & ALLISON LANGDON (Today – Nine)

They might not have years of history on screen together but the duo of Karl Stefanovic and Ally Langdon is fast becoming a winner for Today.

Joining together as co-hosts of the breakfast program in 2020, Stefanovic and Langdon have been paramount in rebuilding the show and sending it on its journey to former glory.

Viewers have welcomed the pair ever since they debuted with one of Australia’s most groundbreaking stories – the Australian 2020 bushfires. Proving they can deliver the most trusted news, Stefanovic and Langdon admit their playful banter on screen continues when Today cuts to commercial.

About their friendship, Stefanovic said, “The reality is we have an incredibly strong relationship and we’re doing something we both love”. Only time will tell if their chemistry is enough to win over TV Blackbox readers.

ANDREW WINTER & NEALE WHITAKER (Love It or List It Australia – Foxtel)

When an Australian version of Love It or List It was commissioned, it seemed only fitting that Andrew Winter and Neale Whitaker would be the duo battling against each other each week to win over the episode’s home buyers or renovators.

Real estate agent Winter takes on the ‘List’ side of the program, showing would-be home buyers what their next home could be, and how it betters their current one. Meanwhile, interior designer Whitaker sides with ‘Love’ and renovates the current home owners’ property, hoping some changes will be all it takes to keep them where they are.

So far, Whitaker leads Winter with a 23 to 16 score for those who have chosen to ‘Love’ over ‘List’.

In an interview for the Sydney Morning Herald last month, Winter commented on why he and Whitaker’s dynamic works, saying, “We’re the yin and the yang… We’re the same vintage. We have a lot of shared references. And we have a very similar sense of humour”.
