The news comes just weeks after Slater was removed from the Seven Network’s cricket coverage team.

An investigation was launched by the Eastern Suburbs Police Area Commend yesterday after receiving reports of an alleged domestic violence incident occuring on Tuesday, October 12.

“Following inquiries, detectives attended a home at Manly about 9:20am and spoke with a 51-year-old man. He has since been arrested and taken to Manly Police Station.”

Slater’s arrest comes only two weeks after he was axed from Seven’s cricket coverage team after several concerning incidents in recent years involving the former Australian Test batting star.

In 2019, TV Blackbox exclusively revealed several people within Channel 7 had grown frustrated by the behaviour of Slater.

At the time, his behaviour was described as ‘unreliable’, and he was known for displaying ‘temper’ issues leading him to withdraw from commentating on some BBL matches during that summer.

Three days after the publication of that information by this website, Slater was removed from a Qantas flight after being involved in a heated discussion with two women he was travelling with. Witnesses on the flight described Slater as swearing and yelling abuse at a female travel partner.

Slater initially locked himself in the plane’s bathroom, causing take-off to be delayed. He eventually agreed to exit the flight after requests from cabin staff.

Earlier this year, Slater attracted significant criticism after he used social media to accuse Prime Minister Scott Morrison of having “blood on his hands” due to the government policy of preventing Australian citizens from returning from India during a severe COVID outbreak.

In a quote supplied to the Daily Telegraph newspaper, the Head of Sport at Seven Lewis Martin, confirmed the decision to part way with Slater, but insisted the decision had been made due to budgetary restraints, rather than concerns about behaviour:

“He’s a very talented broadcaster and he’s been a ripping member of our team. It’s more about financial management than anything else and we wish Michael the very best in the future, we really do

“Unfortunately, business decisions have to be made from time to time and unfortunately we’re not in a position to renew it.

“He was a very popular member of our team and a very talented broadcaster. I can only expect this will only be a pause (in his career).”

Slater played 74 test games throughout his professional cricket career.
