New awards to be decided by TV and streaming viewers.

The Logie awards have been postponed and TV Blackbox will step up to recognise the TV industry.

At a time when the television industry is struggling, we think it’s important to recognise the work of those on screen and behind the scenes. That’s why we are launching the TV Blackbox Awards.

The TV Week Logie Awards hold an important place in rewarding the array of people who entertain us through multiple platforms, but they will be missing from our screens for the second year in a row.

The ceremony, which was due to be held at The Star on the Gold Coast on November 28, has been postponed (again) due to COVID-19.

We don’t think that’s right, which is why we’re stepping up.

So, in the coming weeks voting will open to all of our readers. Usually, the PR teams of each network will allocate approx 25 nominees for each category, but this time YOU will have a say on who makes each list.

While we will provide a list of names for each category, readers will be able to add to the list.

We are still working out the finer details, but after the first round of voting each category will be reduced to the five most popular people/shows.

Then our readers will cast their final votes which will determine the winners.

We will announce the winners in a live stream event on November 28, the original night the Logies were due to be held.

At this stage we have no idea whether TV networks will want to be involved with this idea, but it actually doesn’t matter either way. This is an event for the fans to support the shows and personalities they love.

But, of course, we would welcome their input and support.

More to come…
