The 2021 AFL Finals Series continues to kick goals on the Seven Network, with Saturday night’s Brisbane Lions v. Western Bulldogs match scoring the biggest AFL national audience this year.
Saturday night’s high-stakes clash was watched by 1.11 million free-to-air viewers nationally and 835,000 in the capital cities, up 3% and 5% respectively on the 2019 semi-final between Brisbane and GWS Giants.
The sudden death semi was up 22% in Melbourne on compared with 2019.
Seven’s Saturday AFL match was the #1 program of the night in 25 to 54s, #1 in its timeslot and helped Seven to a huge 52.4% network commercial share.
The Saturday night clash was also a big winner for Foxtel with a national audience of 425k tuning in for the commercial free coverage on Fox Footy (data excludes streaming platforms including Kayo)
On Friday night, the Geelong v. GWS Giants clash recorded an average national audience of 937,000, up 27% on the 2021 regular season Friday night average.
In the capital cities, 698,000 people tuned into Seven’s live and free coverage, up 24% on the regular Friday night average audience.
In Sydney, the audience soared 64% on the same match of the 2019 finals and helped Seven win Friday night with a massive 50% network commercial share across the capital cities.
An additional 324,000 national viewers watched the Friday night contest on Fox Footy (data excludes streaming platforms including Fox Footy).
