Brekky TV often cops criticism for being overblown, over-wrought, delivering dross wrapped up as “news”.
This morning on The Today Show we saw real humanity and heart as Anthony McCormick shared his story about overcoming gigantic obstacles while racing to see his dying mother only to be thwarted at the final hurdle.
Lack of compassion and organisation from Qld Health and the commercial airlines has seen McCormick locked in quarantine after rushing to Australia see his dying mum, landing in Sydney with an exemption to leave but instead getting caught in bureaucracy being unable to secure an exemption from Qld Health to enter the state.
During the interview Anthony reveals to shocked hosts Allison Langdon and Karl Stefanovic his mother passed away overnight. The Today Show team believed there was still a chance for Anthony to be granted an exemption to see her and were unaware she had died.
Anthony’s powerful story, shared with compassion and dignity yet full of hopelessness at his situation, understandably brought Langdon to tears and visibly affected his former schoolmate Stefanovic.
