GUY PEARCE returns this weekend with a brand new season of JACK IRISH

Emmy award-winner Guy Pearce is back for one last crusade reprising his iconic role as Jack Irish, a former criminal lawyer with a penchant for getting wrapped up in things he shouldn’t.

Inspired by the acclaimed crime novels of Peter Temple, the explosive four-part series comes full circle, with the long-suppressed trauma of Jack’s wife’s brutal and random murder by his former client Wayne Milovich – which launched the first Jack Irish instalment, Bad Debts – rearing its ugly head after Jack discovers there was more to those fateful events all those years ago.

In the first episode, a young criminal, Troy, is released from prison and murders an off-duty cop in a burger drive thru without being detected. Attending the crime scene, Barry Tregear is rattled when he learns the identity of the cop and asks Jack Irish to tail Mick Khoury – an ex-cop who lives on a boat.

Jack manages to squeeze it in around kinder pick up and dropping his five-year-old son, Sami, back to his mother Evie’s house. Khoury catches Jack and attacks him, the panic and shock causing Barry to suffer a heart attack.

With his friend’s life in the balance, Jack is surprised to see a mystery woman leaving Barry’s hospital room. Barry, barely conscious and drugged up on morphine, stresses to Jack not to tell his wife Carol about the woman.

Barry goes on to apologise for Isabel, something that shakes Jack to his core, Jack’s wife having died before Jack and Barry met. Jack demands Drew – now shacked up in the countryside with Simone – pull out the old file on Wayne Milovich, his wife’s murderer, to dig deeper.

Production credits: An Easy Tiger Production for ABC in association with Film Victoria. Producers: Ian Collie, Matt Cameron and Jo Rooney. Executive Producers: Rob Gibson and Andrew Knight. ABC Executive Producers: Brett Sleigh and Sally Riley. Distributed internationally by DCD Rights.

Jack Irish – Series 3, Episode 1 premieres Sunday 13 June 8.30pm
