In the Queensland Derby, Explosive Jack is bidding to claim a remarkable fourth Derby victory this year, following his wins in the Tasmanian, Australian and SA Derbies.

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained colt is set to start favourite on Saturday, but will face fierce opposition from stablemate and SA Derby runner-up Let’s Karaka Deel, while master trainer Chris Waller has six runners led by Senor Toba, who impressed finishing third in the Rough Habit Plate at Doomben two weeks ago.

The Everest placegetter Gytrash makes his Queensland debut in the Kingsford-Smith Cup as a proven Group 1 winner. However, the Gordon Richards-trained gelding will have to overcome ultra-consistent Godolphin mare Savatiano and her stablemate Trekking, who finished third in the race’s 2019 edition before winning that year’s Stradbroke Handicap.

Brisbane’s premier trainer Tony Gollan also has three chances in the 1300m feature, including five-year-old gelding Vega One, who will be ridden by Jamie Kah.

Over the next month, Seven and 7plus will bring fans all the biggest moments of winter racing across the country, including the prestigious Brisbane Winter Carnival and the best thoroughbred action from Sydney and Melbourne.
