A ‘Magic Round’ of NRL and a highly competitive round of AFL has seen Foxtel and Kayo achieve more big audience figures.
TV Blackbox can reveal this year’s NRL Magic Round with all eight matches being played in Brisbane, achieved an average audience of 386K across the combined platforms of Foxtel and Kayo.
The result was up +28% compared with the inaugural Magic Round in 2019.
Saturday’s 5:30 pm Fox League exclusive Sharks vs Rabbitohs clash was the highest audience of the round with an audience of 472k. The match now ranks as the 13th highest rating game for the Foxtel group of all-time.

The AFL is also continuing to deliver strong results for Fox Footy with this years season currently averaging 243K; up +17% on 2019 (Foxtel and Kayo).
Friday night’s Round 9 opener between St Kilda & Geelong was the highest rating game of the round with 296k viewers.
Overall, Round 9 averaged 219K; up +29% on 2019 (Foxtel and Kayo)
These latest football results come after Kayo announced it now has over 1 million paid subscribers across Australia. The sports streaming service has also recently confirmed it is running the majority of its IT infrastructure on Amazon Web Services.
In April 2021 alone, Kayo delivered more than 25 million hours of sports content to its subscribers.
On March 18, 2021, Kayo and BINGE experienced a peak in demand on its platform with major events, including live AFL and NRL matches and the premiere of superhero movie Zack Snyder’s Justice League airing simultaneously. The Amazon powered platform was able to provide more than 350,000 peak concurrent video streams hitting more than six million hours of content across the four days of the peak.
