Television shows get axed and renewed all the time but then there are a number of shows that get the ‘no decision has been made’ stamp that can go on indefinitely.
For example Seven have still not axed City Homicide, despite it not airing since 2011.
10 recently announced that Celebrity Name Game had been cancelled, which was not unexpected. However, the network has a number of months’ worth of episodes to screen with the network not confirming whether they would see the light of day.
In most game show contracts contestants are advised that any winnings are only paid if the show actually goes to air, meaning it is possible that many participants that have played their part have actually not been paid as yet.
10 would not make comment on the status of unaired episodes or whether contestants had been paid their winnings.
10 has yet to confirm the future of Mr. Black, The Secrets She Keeps, Junior MasterChef, Drunk History Australia and Kinne Tonight. The CBS-owned network also has unaired episodes of Changing Rooms Australia to air.
Seven has made an announcement for almost all their shows with just a few multi-channel shows waiting for renewal.
TV Blackbox can confirm that Housos will return for a new season, but no decision has been made on Regular Old Bogan and Desert Collectors.
Although the City Homicide non-axing is an ongoing joke, Seven has said that it’s safe to assume that the show is dead! Finally!
Nine recently confirmed to TV Tonight that Australian Crime Stories and Bondi Vet had been renewed for 2021. The network also has three shows in ‘limbo land’ including Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation, Seachange and Halifax. When approached by TV Blackbox, Nine declined to comment. As these shows have not secured airdate in 2020 it is safe to assume they are unlikely to return.
In other programming news, Nine was able to confirm that Manifest, Young Sheldon, and Chicago Med would return very soon. The network also confirmed that the reunion episode of Race Across the World would not air on linear but is available on 9 Now and that the very last episode of Driving Test that was pulled from its Monday night slot is yet to be rescheduled.
