Three seasons of Italian crime drama GOMORRAH arrive at SBS On Demand

This is the inside story of the Camorra, the fierce Neapolitan crime organisation, seen through the eyes of 30-year-old Ciro, the right-hand man of the clan’s godfather, Pietro Savastano.

Ciro (Marco D’Amore) knows better than anyone what it means to be a loyal clan member. But when clan leader Pietro (Fortunato Cerlino) decides to sacrifice the lives of many of his own only to make a blood-drenched statement to rival clan boss Salvatore Conte (Marco Palvetti), something dies in Ciro – for one of the many victims of the bloodshed is his foster father Attilio (Antonio Milo), himself an ever-loyal clan member.

When Pietro is sidelined by a long jail sentence, Ciro’s own code of honour forces him to obey Pietro’s orders: he is to be a mentor first to Pietro’s son Gennaro (Salvatore Esposito), and then to his wife Imma (Maria Pia Calzone) – both visibly unsuited to hold the reins of power. With his back against the wall and knowing that sowing the seeds of chaos is the best method to bring about a new order, Ciro finally forges a secret pact with the clan’s most hated enemy, Conte.

The result is not only relentless bloodshed outside and inside the Savastano clan, but also a new order, with Ciro as the new godfather.

Pietro, having apparently lost his mind during the endless months of solitary confinement, escapes while being transferred to a mental clinic, and Ciro’s new life is threatened.

In Italian with English subtitles.

Seasons one to three of Gomorrah will premiere Friday, 16 October 2020 on SBS On Demand.

Gomorrah season one will begin airing on SBS World Movies, weekly at 8.30pm from Sunday, 18 October.
