The greatest weekend in Australian sporting history has become even more electrifying with Seven extending its world-leading Spring Racing coverage to include for the first time ever next Friday night’s Group 1 Manikato Stakes, ahead of the following day’s 100th running of the Cox Plate and the AFL’s historic night Grand Final.

The Manikato Stakes (1200m) is one of Melbourne’s major sprint races and will headline Seven’s coverage at Moonee Valley from 8.00pm AEDT Friday October 23 on 7TWO and 7plus.

The broadcast will also feature the Ladbrokes Greatest Ever Cox Plate, a tantalising virtual race between a capacity field of 14 that includes iconic past champions such as Winx, Phar Lap and Kingston Town, along with international all-time greats Frankel and Secretariat. Leading race caller Matthew Hill will call the great race.

The following day Seven will be at the centre of Australia’s biggest ever sporting day, with non-stop LIVE and FREE coverage highlighted by the Cox Plate – Australasia’s weight for age championship – and the one Grand Final that truly stops the nation, the AFL premiership decider at the Gabba.

Seven’s Manikato Stakes coverage will be led by Nigel Carmody, Henry Dwyer, Katelyn Mallyon and Jason Richardson, while racing fans can also keep across all the action on the @7HorseRacing social pages on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Managing Director Seven Melbourne and Head of Network Sport Lewis Martin commented:

“Just when sports fans thought the month of October couldn’t possibly get any bigger, they now have another marquee night of Group 1 racing to enjoy, featuring some of the nation’s best sprinters in the Manikato Stakes. And that will just be the start of a sporting weekend Seven viewers will never forget.”

This Saturday, Seven’s Spring Racing coverage continues when the biggest names in thoroughbred racing do battle for two of the sport’s most glittering prizes – the world’s richest race on turf, The Everest, at Randwick, and one of international racing’s most coveted staying events, the Caulfield Cup.

AND fans can also look forward to the following marquee meetings on Seven this month:

  • October 24 – Moonee Valley: Cox Plate Day; Randwick: Bondi Stakes Day
  • October 31 – Rosehill Gardens: Golden Eagle Day
